Aberdeen Wing have great success at rifle meet

4 Aberdeen wing squadrons 107 Aberdeen, 877 Inverurie, 865 Portlethen and 1297 Stonehaven had representation in the Inter service cadet rifle meeting at Bisley ranges surrey. The cadets were using the 7.62 mm L81A2 cadet fullbore target rifles at ranges from 300 to 600 yards. The meeting is run by the council for cadet rifle shooting and comprises the top 50 teams in each service Sea, Army and Air a total of 500 cadets.

 

Since it is the 150 anniversary of the cadet movement, the usual cadet hundred badges for the top one hundred firers in the meeting was presented to the top one hundred and fifty. Aberdeen wing set a new record by collecting five cadet 150s.

 

Winning cadets were F/Sgt Andrew Duncan 1297, Sgt Aaron Sangster 1297, Sgt Jonathan Gray1297, Cpl Daniel Moir 1297 and Cpl Andrew low 865.

 

Especially well done to Sgt Aaron Sangster who finished 27th overall and was picked to represent the Air Cadets in the inter services final.

 

Flt Lt Duncan Campbell 1297 shooting coach commented, “ Well done to all the teams a tremendous effort and excellent achievement ”. Also a first ever cadet 150 for 865 Portlethen Sqn in Cpl Low.  A lot of practice was put in before the event starting in March 2010 two days per month at Barrybuddon and Blackdog ranges.

 

The Aberdeen wing cadets would not have been able to produce such a tremendous result without the help and support of Sqn Ldr Paul Matheison (Regional Shooting Officer), Sqn Ldr Garry Donald (OC Scotsatt), Sqn Ldr Colin Crann (Durham Northumberland Wing ) and Flt Lt Grant Beagrie (Aberdeen Wing Shooting Officer).
